There are travel days—and then there are days that feel like dreams. Our one fine day in Tallinn, Estonia was just that: beautifully surreal, wrapped in cobbled charm and Baltic soul, and stitched into memory forever.
We arrived in Estonia aboard the Tallink Silja Line cruise from Stockholm, and honestly, the journey itself felt like a destination. Imagine stepping onto a floating wonderland—with malls, restaurants, karaoke bars, a theatre, a game zone, and gift shops, sauna and many more luxuries, all gliding gently on shimmering blue waters. It was a lifetime experience, a cruise that felt like a dream in every way.
What else could one ask for? Maybe just the sight of the midnight starry sky above, the peaceful lull of waves below, and the feeling of sleeping like a baby on blue waters. Looking endlessly into the blue from a window was food for the soul. Whether you’re planning a round-trip cruise or just a quick visit, this is hands-down the easiest and most magical way to reach Estonia.
A Walk Through Tallinn’s Soul
Tallinn greeted us with an old-world charm that was both regal and rustic. We began our day at the Old Town Square, with its fairytale spires, pastel buildings, and time-worn cobblestones. Every turn whispered stories.
We stood before St. Olaf’s Church, once the tallest building in the world. It was so towering, I had to lie down on the street just to fit it into my camera frame—even with my best configuration. No climb needed to feel small in its presence.
Then came the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral—onion domes soaring, reminiscent of St. Petersburg, and yet distinctly Estonian in spirit. From Toompea Hill, we soaked in panoramic views that stretched across the terracotta rooftops and blue-grey Baltic horizon.
Later, we explored Telliskivi Creative City, a vibrant contrast to the medieval core. Bursting with graffiti, modern art, and bohemian vibes, this repurposed industrial hub is Tallinn’s pulse for creativity and street culture.
A Taste of Tallinn
No beautiful day is complete without a meal to match, and Tallinn didn’t disappoint. We dined at Margherita, proudly ranked among Europe’s Top 50 Pizza Places. We ordered a simple Margherita pizza, with no toppings—just the best cheese you can imagine, delicately melted over a flawless crust.
And for dessert? A sweet trio of tiramisu, Nutella-filled buns, and a strong espresso macchiato to seal the memory.
A Quiet Moment, A Lifetime Memory
As evening hues melted across the sky, I wandered the Old Town once more. Street-side stores offered handmade treasures—crafted with love, each piece carrying the warmth of its maker. And then I heard it: the soul-stirring sound of a violin.
There she was—a street artist, lost in her own music. I sat nearby, listening. Every chord she strung, she strung on my soul. In that moment, I felt gratitude, pure and overflowing. Even in fantasy, I couldn’t have imagined a day as beautiful. It was, simply put, a blessing.
Estonia may have been just a day on our journey, but it left a lifetime of warmth. Whether you’re adding it as a Baltic stopover or weaving it into a broader itinerary like we did, Tallinn is a place that lingers in the heart.
Let your soul follow the music, the flavors, and the stories. Estonia is waiting.

I so wanted to go to Tallinn when I visited Scandinavia – now I feel like I have. Evocative as always
